How do I know how much detergent to use in my dishwasher?

The amount of detergent you need to use depends on whether you have hard or soft water. To determine the proper amount, follow these tips:

  • If you are using dishwasher packs or tablets, use only one at a time. If you’ve selected a quick or fast cycle, add the detergent pack or tablet in the tub so it dissolves during shorter cycles.
  • For powder, gel and liquid detergents, consult your Owner’s Manual, which lists the correct amount of detergent for degree of water conditions. You can also find more tips at www.cascadeclean.com.

To determine your water hardness, contact your water supplier or have your water tested by an outside source (such as a company that sells water treatment equipment).

For best results, follow these tips for detergent use:

  • Make sure the detergent is fresh. When it’s old or expired, it might not dissolve properly.
  • Store detergent in a cool, dry place.
  • When loading the dishwasher, be sure that the detergent dispenser can open freely (not blocked by a dish/pan, etc) and that water from the spray arm can reach the open dispenser.
  • Because most detergents are designed to dissolve and activate at 120°F, your dishwasher will perform best if your water temperature is 120°F or higher at the start of a wash cycle.
  • TIP: Feel free to check your water heater setting. You may also run hot water from the kitchen faucet prior to starting the dishwasher.

How can I ensure the best cleaning results?

For the best cleaning performance, we recommend your water heat is set for a minimum of 120 degrees. If uncertain if your water is the appropriate heat, check the water heater's temperature reading. To help achieve the desired temperature, try letting water run in your sink until it’s hot. This "primes the pump" – it gets hotter water to your dishwasher faster. (Your dishwasher uses about 3-4 gallons per cycle, limiting the opportunity the water has to warm up if it doesn’t start off hot enough.) Low water pressure may also contribute to your cleaning results. If water is being used elsewhere in your home at the same time (ex. showers, laundry), you may need to wait until water use is reduced before starting your dishwasher.

Some dishwasher models offer a Sanitize Rinse option, which delivers higher heat for maximum drying and ensures a 99.999% reduction of bacteria (as certified by the NSF). We also recommend using rinse aid (such as Cascade Rinse Aids), which helps to eliminate spots and residue. For additional tips to ensure the best cleaning, see the "best way to load" your dishwasher in our FAQ's or refer to your Owner’s Manual. If you are unable to resolve an issue or need more information, please contact us.

What does ENERGY STAR® qualified mean?

Products that are ENERGY STAR® qualified are equivalent to or better than standard products, with one important difference: they use less energy. To learn the ENERGY STAR® rating, products must meet strict energy efficiency criteria set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency or the U.S. Department of Energy. Because they use less energy, these products save money on your electricity bill and help protect the environment by reducing harmful emissions from power plants. Plus, you get all of the features and quality you expect.

What is the best way to load the silverware basket?

Since the features and appearances of silverware baskets may vary by model, please reference your Owner’s Manual. However, here are some overall helpful tips:

  1. Load the silverware basket while it is in the bottom rack or take the basket out for easy loading on a counter or table.
  2. For silverware baskets with lids, small items like baby bottle caps, jar lids, etc. can be placed in a covered section to hold them securely in place.
  3. Be sure nothing protrudes through bottom of silverware basket or rack that may block the spray arm.
  4. We recommend you do not mix silver and stainless to avoid damaging the silver finish.
  5. When you are not using the lids to your silverware basket, mix items in each section of the basket with some items pointing up and some down to avoid nesting. The water spray cannot reach nested items.

24" Built-In Dishwasher with Dual OrbitClean® Wash System is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 18.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best dishwasher I’ve had This dishwasher is the hands-down the best I’ve had. Living in rentals over the past 10 years, we’ve had some not-so-great dishwashers. Stylish and functional, this one is the perfect combo. We currently are using the auto function to determine the best cycle for our dishes, one less step to remember. Dishes come out sparkling clean and dry. Not a single cup or Tupperware had water remaining in the bottom. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great performance!! My dishes are spotless. My new orbit clean dishwasher is top notch in its cleaning performance I can really tell the difference from my old dishwasher in its ability to get my dishes spotless. It looks great and I love the no smudge easy to clean stainless. I wish they had included side brackets for the installation and it took me awhile to figure out the start button, but other than that it is a great dishwasher. The new orbit rotation really get the dishes clean!!! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Quiet but a little flimsy We have been using this dishwasher for about a month. The pros: it is very quiet, has a lot of wash and rinse options, and gets our dishes squeaky clean. The cons: the bottom drawer is so lightweight that it comes off the track and hitches vertically, the utensil basket is not attached so it slides around, and it is shorter than our last dishwasher so it is not flush with the counter (we haven't installed a trim kit yet). Rated 4 out of 5 by from Sleek and Efficient This dishwasher replaced an existing dishwasher that would run in perpetuity if it was ever closed, so my satisfaction level with any new dishwasher will always be positive when measured against what we used to have! The washing cycle itself leaves our dishes exceptionally clean, and is very quiet. The sleek design fits comfortably at counter depth, and the space inside is neatly organized. My only "complaints" are that the normal wash cycle is quite long at over two hours (not that I am in any particular rush to have dishes completed earlier than that) and sometimes after I press "Start" to activate the cycle and close the dishwasher, the cycle doesn't begin on the first attempt (although my wife tells me this is user error). Overall, we are very satisfied with the washer and would highly recommend to customers. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quiet dishwasher that actually washes your dishes. Great dishwasher. I've owned this dishwasher for a week and put it to the test. My last dishwasher was noisy and I had to clean every spec of food off before washing the dishes. This one is so quiet (I barely know its on) and it actually cleans the dishes, doesn't just sanitize them. Is also looks good - very sleek. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tons of options This was a huge upgrade from my prior dishwasher which only had a few wash cycle options. I now have multiple wash cycles, (china, power plus, energy saver etc..), so much quieter than the previous model and no complaints and the ability to clean and dry at the end of the cycle. Very pleased [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Great I installed this product about a month ago. Installation was a breeze. I love the delay feature. Have it programmed to my favorite setting so even my kids can start it. Lots of options for arranging the top rack so I can fit all sorts of stuff up there. Dishes come out very clean and with the jet rinse, almost spot free.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from touch controls need better explanation Was easy to install. The use of the controls on top edge of door not user friendly. After several depressing the options I can get it to start. If I open the door to add an item, washing does not resume when door is closed. I have to start over...???
