How do I know how much detergent to use in my dishwasher?

The amount of detergent you need to use depends on whether you have hard or soft water. To determine the proper amount, follow these tips:

  • If you are using dishwasher packs or tablets, use only one at a time. If you’ve selected a quick or fast cycle, add the detergent pack or tablet in the tub so it dissolves during shorter cycles.
  • For powder, gel and liquid detergents, consult your Owner’s Manual, which lists the correct amount of detergent for degree of water conditions. You can also find more tips at

To determine your water hardness, contact your water supplier or have your water tested by an outside source (such as a company that sells water treatment equipment).

For best results, follow these tips for detergent use:

  • Make sure the detergent is fresh. When it’s old or expired, it might not dissolve properly.
  • Store detergent in a cool, dry place.
  • When loading the dishwasher, be sure that the detergent dispenser can open freely (not blocked by a dish/pan, etc) and that water from the spray arm can reach the open dispenser.
  • Because most detergents are designed to dissolve and activate at 120°F, your dishwasher will perform best if your water temperature is 120°F or higher at the start of a wash cycle.
  • TIP: Feel free to check your water heater setting. You may also run hot water from the kitchen faucet prior to starting the dishwasher.

How can I ensure the best cleaning results?

For the best cleaning performance, we recommend your water heat is set for a minimum of 120 degrees. If uncertain if your water is the appropriate heat, check the water heater's temperature reading. To help achieve the desired temperature, try letting water run in your sink until it’s hot. This "primes the pump" – it gets hotter water to your dishwasher faster. (Your dishwasher uses about 3-4 gallons per cycle, limiting the opportunity the water has to warm up if it doesn’t start off hot enough.) Low water pressure may also contribute to your cleaning results. If water is being used elsewhere in your home at the same time (ex. showers, laundry), you may need to wait until water use is reduced before starting your dishwasher.

Some dishwasher models offer a Sanitize Rinse option, which delivers higher heat for maximum drying and ensures a 99.999% reduction of bacteria (as certified by the NSF). We also recommend using rinse aid (such as Cascade Rinse Aids), which helps to eliminate spots and residue. For additional tips to ensure the best cleaning, see the "best way to load" your dishwasher in our FAQ's or refer to your Owner’s Manual. If you are unable to resolve an issue or need more information, please contact us.

What does ENERGY STAR® qualified mean?

Products that are ENERGY STAR® qualified are equivalent to or better than standard products, with one important difference: they use less energy. To learn the ENERGY STAR® rating, products must meet strict energy efficiency criteria set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency or the U.S. Department of Energy. Because they use less energy, these products save money on your electricity bill and help protect the environment by reducing harmful emissions from power plants. Plus, you get all of the features and quality you expect.

What is the best way to load the silverware basket?

Since the features and appearances of silverware baskets may vary by model, please reference your Owner’s Manual. However, here are some overall helpful tips:

  1. Load the silverware basket while it is in the bottom rack or take the basket out for easy loading on a counter or table.
  2. For silverware baskets with lids, small items like baby bottle caps, jar lids, etc. can be placed in a covered section to hold them securely in place.
  3. Be sure nothing protrudes through bottom of silverware basket or rack that may block the spray arm.
  4. We recommend you do not mix silver and stainless to avoid damaging the silver finish.
  5. When you are not using the lids to your silverware basket, mix items in each section of the basket with some items pointing up and some down to avoid nesting. The water spray cannot reach nested items.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very quiet Still getting used to it! After installation I tried for three hours to start it...dang instructions were NOT for my machine. Finally called installer at another job and he said he would come back....fabulous person! This NEW machine has you push buttons before closing..I finally hit the START button (also) Before finally worked! Called my installer and told him is am now accredited after three hours of working out the START button. Saved him a trip back. Now have to work out heat...dishes are still not dry! Another challenge. Yes I would purchase again but wiser! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quietest dishwasher ever! We needed a reliable dishwasher that wouldn't drive us from the house while it ran. We are incredibly happy with this with dishwasher. It cleans wonderfully and efficiently, but most of all, it's quiet. If I'm not in the kitchen, I don't know that it's running. Dishes are clean every time. I have been using the air dry option, and have been pleased to see that there is no water puddling on top of glasses. The machine is very efficient to load; I am definitely able to fit more in this dishwasher than my old one. We are extremely happy that we chose this product. Rated 1 out of 5 by from Avoid at all costs I purchased this dishwasher last June and it has been nothing but a headache since. Frustratingly the controls don’t have a positive feedback (as in a “click” when pushed) and very very frequently it has to be “reset” (a complete power down) to get it to start the wash cycle.. The power-down work around came from the technician that Frigidaire sent to “repair” this unit. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best dishwasher I’ve had This dishwasher is the hands-down the best I’ve had. Living in rentals over the past 10 years, we’ve had some not-so-great dishwashers. Stylish and functional, this one is the perfect combo. We currently are using the auto function to determine the best cycle for our dishes, one less step to remember. Dishes come out sparkling clean and dry. Not a single cup or Tupperware had water remaining in the bottom. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from So far so good My only complaint is that the dishes aren't washed very well on the quick wash cycle. I know it isn't meant to clean as well as a normal cycle but I don't even bother using it anymore because I end up having to rewash them anyways. I clean all my dishes off before I put them in the dishwasher too. It is very quiet though which is great! Almost to the point where I can't figure out if it's running. I love the sleek look of no buttons on the front but it can make it a little challenging to select your wash options. Overall pretty satisfied with it. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love the spray arms So far so good! I bought it because I liked the spray arms and the salesman said it would actually dry my dishes, well yes for the most part they are dry, but the plastic items still aren’t completely dry, I also don’t think I have the Gallery model as I don’t have the Sahara heat option just mega boost. The other only down fall is controls are under my granite counter, but I’m ok with that. I do also love the no smudge stainless finish and that there is no name on the front, that’s good because the rest of my appliances are a different manufacture. Oh! It’s very quiet too, you can’t hear it start up, and bearly hear it running. I love it! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Clean look and execution I installed this dishwasher a couple of weeks ago and it has been fantastic. I was replacing an old portable dishwasher and I can honestly say that this one washes the dishes much better. They all come out spotless. The dishwasher is quiet and looks super clean with the buttons on the inside. My only issue with it is that the buttons all light up every time you open the door and put a dish inside. I wish there was a feature to shut this off. This is a very minor thing though and overall I am very happy with my purchase. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Features Love this dishwasher! We use a lot of bowls, it is so great to be able to wash just the upper rack. The dishes come out great can also put the silverware tray in the top rack, that also works out good. I've learned to run the hot water before I run the dishwasher. I put everything in it start it and wash up the pans I can't wash in the dishwasher(because of their warranty). keep the hot water running while I do the counters etc. That way it doesn't take as long to run the dishwasher. Would highly recommend this model . [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
