Questions & Reviews

What are the benefits of Induction?

Induction cooking directly heats the pan; heating will only begin when cookware is properly placed on the cooking zones. Fast and efficient - Induction cooking zones heat faster and use less energy. Induction power levels are quick to boil and they are efficient when simmering.

A cooler cooktop - A unique feature of the induction cooking zones is, whether it is turned on or off, the cooking zones remain cooler than radiant type elements. Virtually no wasted heat is produced since the heat begins with the presence of cookware.

Easy cleanups - The cooler cooking zones make cleanup easier. Spills resist sticking or burning so they wipe up easily.

Magnetic detector - The cooking zone has a sensor that automatically detects whether cookware is magnetic. This will reduce accidental “turn-ons.”

Pan size detection - The pan size recognition sensor automatically detects and adapts the induction cooking zones to the pan sizes in use for consistent, more even cooking.

More responsive - Induction cooking zones are more responsive than their electric or gas counterparts because only the pan heats. This type of cooking heats easier and will be just as responsive when reducing to a simmer.

What type of cookware do I use with Induction?

For the best possible surface cooking results, it is recommended to only use high quality heavy gauge cookware on the induction cooking zones. Be sure to follow all the manufacturer’s recommendations when using cookware made for induction cooking. To check if the cookware base material is suitable, use a magnet to test. If a magnet sticks to the bottom of the cookware, the material type is correct. The most common induction cookware types available are:

Stainless steel - Generally excellent for induction cooking plus it is durable, easy to clean and resists staining. However, it is important to note that not all stainless steel is magnetic.
Cast iron - Good for induction cooking. Cooks evenly. Do not slide cast iron cookware on cooktop. Cast iron cookware with a rough surface will scratch ceramic cooktop.
Porcelain-enamel coated metals - Heating characteristics will vary depending on quality of base material. Porcelain-enamel coating must be smooth to avoid scratching the ceramic cooktop.

Why does my Induction cooktop make noises when I’m cooking?

Some cookware can hum or buzz when used in induction cooking. The surface controls click as they work to create even cooking temps. Temp changes during preheat and cool-down can make parts of the cooktop expand and contract. Different fans run to cool down different parts of the cooktop, even when it’s off. These sounds are normal.

Can I 'mute' the audible tones on my appliance?

The option to silent audible tones may not be applicable on all models so you want to check your Owner’s Manual.

For applicable models - When selecting a function on your display, an audible tone is heard each time a key is pressed. If you desire, the display can be programmed for silent operation. To set the controls for silent operation:

  • Press and hold Start Time for 6 seconds. The display will beep once and then you can release the key.
  • The controls are now set for silent operation.

To return your audible tones to normal operation:

  • Press and hold Start Time again for 6 seconds until the display beeps once and then you release the key.
  • The controls are now set for audible operation.

30" Induction Cooktop is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 23.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing performance After reviewing numerous brands and features we landed on the Frigidaire Gallery induction cooktop. We have been using the cooktop for a month and couldn't be happier. The heat is almost instant and a full 5qt pot boils in 3.5 minutes. The heat adjusts faster than gas. Add to it the cool cooktop and easy of cleaning and e are very pleased. Some mention it makes a noise, we find the very minimal hum is mostly noticeable when on power boil only and is not bothersome at all. The timer feature is very useful and it turns itself off if it does not sense a pot or pan on the burner. We are very pleased with the purchase. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super Energy Efficient and Easy to Use We bought our Frigidare 30" built-in induction cook top to help save energy and shorten cook times without affecting the output and quality of the meal. AMAZING! WOW were we supprised. Using the correct induction ready pans, we are able to shorten cook times and reduce the heat output in the kitchen. We believe this is due to the auto senseing pan feature. And, with its encredible even heating accross the entire heating surface area, we noticably improved the quality and tast of the food we cook. With the induction ready pans, this stovetop can actually boil water in under two (2) minutes. Best of all, it's super easy to clean. Truly amazing. We highly recommend this product. Rated 4 out of 5 by from DOUBLE CHECK IT performance is GREAT once "properly installed" and "with elements and control panel correctly in place". And to check if elements are correctly in place get a pan (iron as specified for induction) and fill with a finger shallow of water and observe if the ebullition occurs evenly. If not, in case there is one side of the pan that starts boiling faster then the other side, than the element is not in place underneath the glass. You will need to disassembly the glass and side panels to have access to the elements. Each element is secured in place by 4 little rubbers and two location pins. I had to get my cooktop completely open and found out that all, ALL 16 rubbers, were out of place. And the control panel had a broken plastic locator. Elements were found overlapped. Once all is in place, cooktop performs great. Now I am still waiting for warranty to send missing parts and change the ones that were found bent. For that customer who wants to pay, get it installed and start off using it, well, surprise might be on the way, reason this post title is "Double check it". Otherwise, call for warranty, get it fix, and enjoy new ways of cooking with induction technology..

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Thanks to Scarpa's Review I didn't have to return. This is working great NOW. The main burner was not heating evenly. After reading Scarpa's review, I removed the top and found 7 of the 8 rubber spacers under the element were loose inside the cooktop. After reinstalling then correctly, the unit works as it is supposed to. I would have given 5 stars if not for poor manufacturing. The only way the spacers would have come loose is if they were not installed correctly the factory. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent cooktop, with only minor irritations Overall, this is a great cooktop. We're new to induction cooking, so we're still in awe at how *FAST* this thing is. Cooking/steaming vegetables is faster to do on the stove now than the microwave, which is taking a little bit of adjustment. We bought this particular model because we were replacing a frigidare radiant cooktop that had broken (our daughter thought it would be a good surface to break up some frozen shredded cheese), and this was the only induction cooktop we could find which was the right size. But we've been very happy with it, and I think it's as good or better than any of the other ones I looked at, but which would have been more difficult to install. This one was very easy to install, as it simply slipped into the hole from the previous one. The electrical pigtail was quite a bit shorter, and smaller diameter than the previous model, so that took a little bit of maneuvering, but other than that, was very easy to install. The only downsides are the touch-sensitive controls, and how soft, and easily scratched the "glass" top is. My irritation at the controls is that they're too easily affected by water, or a plastic bag, or a plate, or well, anything. If you have a pot boil over, for example, water will flow on top of some part of the controls, which basically disables them all (which means you can't turn down the burner). This is *not* what you want when a pot is boiling over :(. Also, even if the main power is turned off, if you set anything on the controls, the cooktop starts beeping annoyingly. We've been very careful with our cooktop, but it's still been scratched up quite a bit, simply by moving a pan (or plate, or anything sitting on it). I don't know what kind of material the top is made of, but it's very soft. Overall though, I love this cooktop, and would buy it again. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fabulous Cooktop! I bought this cooktop about a month ago and finally had time to use it on a more regular basis. It does exactly like it is supposed to do! It boils water quickly. I love the way the pan itself works to heat the food instead of the radiant heat below burning the food on the bottom of the pan. The controls are easy to use and and the "burners" are very responsive--almost like cooking with gas! I would recommend this cooktop to anyone who wants a stylish but productive cooktop. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Stovetop! I wasn't really sure how I'd like induction cooking and the price of this stovetop was almost too good to be true. I have to say it was very easy for my husband to install (though a little heavy). It works wonderfully...I am so glad we took a chance and ordered this, sight unseen except what I could see online! I absolutely LOVE induction cooking! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
